How to change the spark plugs
I have changed the plugs several times now and I have now mastered how to do it easily and fairly quickly. I find it a very rewarding job. You should avoid using the plug tool supplied with the car. It's a little on the large side for the B bank and there is no movement on the two parts of the tool. It takes me 10 minutes to change all A bank and 30 minutes to change all B bank.
I will now attempt to explain this easy system!
The most important thing is to have a 7 inch ratchethandle with a 3 inch extension that fits on the attachment end and on that you need to fit the plug socket. If you use smaller or larger tools you will have problems! The ratchet will allow you to use left and right threads by moving the plastic adjuster. The extension will give you the flexibilty in awkwark areas that rigid tools will not.
As you are aware the A bank is quite simple.
I remove the air filter pipe and exhaust quick heat cover. This saves time and a bit of hassle and makes the A bank simple.
For the B bank there is nothing you can remove to help the process!
I firstly change the first two plugs from the radiator end. For the third plug you will need to go in with the tool assembled using the left hand going in as if you were removing the first two plugs but using your left hand from above to guide the tool in place. Having a good source of light shining on the plug areas will help a lot and make life much better! For the fourth and last plug you need to basically do the same as plug three but you must guide the tool by using your right hand going down from as close to the bulk head as possible towards the rear of the hydraulic tank . If you keep your cool and try to use the tool and your arms and hands carefully you will have good results! you must be patient and be prepared to dismantle the various parts of the tool to enable the removing and replacing of the plugs. It is also important to use your fingers to locate the plug hole and screw part of the plug into it's hole before using the tool to tighten the plug. It is also important not to over tighten the plugs. Good Luck!
