The car has been sold, so this is the last news item........ Rollie found a new good owner who will look after him from now on.

Oct 02, 2005

The car is stationed at Garage Groenouwe in Bathmen (NL) near Deventer. We will see if it can change owner there.

March 07, 2005

Reposted the site. The forum was not working properly anymore. Had to clean all the postings....Rollie is still going strong, no news there i drive every two weeks without a problem.

February 24, 2004

No news actually, this is good news meaning no problems! The usual winter drive every 2 weeks, almost March.....

October 25, 2003

We had a great summer with Rollie! Smooth riding and the usual reliability. (and a maintenance bill of 237 Euro, not bad) .

April 12, 2003

Everything went fine during this winter. Took the car for a ride at least every two weeks. Drove for hours to let everything get to operating temperatures. Disd not go out a couple of times because of frosty conditions (don'want to get salt on the body parts).

September 08, 2002

Drove the car to the garage for maintenance and yearly APK (MOT). One of the hydraulic accumulators will be replaced, for the rest just regulair maintenance.

June 1, 2002

The gallery on "Banger Racing" has generated lots of correspondence. I still feel we should not close our eyes for the fact that there are people out there that do not care about preserving automobile history. And yes, they are destroying at least the spare parts that could be better used for restauration. But please don't kill the messenger.

May, 11, 2002

No problems, smooth running all the way, every day....

March 23, 2002

Start of the summer season was march 1. The car is out for the summer and will be used daily. Everything runs smoothly.

February 10, 2002

"Rollie" got his weekly drive this winter, as a habit I make sure every electrical part is put to work on the 2 hour drive in the weekend. And so, the centrol doorlocking, window motors and air valves all function well. Al couple of more weeks and the winter stop is over and I can put the winter car (Nissan Primera) in the garage for the summer..The Forum seems to be doing very well. thanks to Michael Lewis, Sergio Podesta and Andrew Holman.

December 30, 2001

The new battery performs well. I also disconnect the ground connector after each drive. Until now I have driven the car once per week for 2 hours to keep it in good condition, I turn all the switches, air motors and central door locks and give the brakes something to do. Everything stays in working condition and the car starts the first time always.

October 20, 2001

End of season, The car stays inside untill march 2002. I will only take it out once per week to keep it in good condition. (except when we have snow and /or salt on the road).

September 10, 2001

It is time for the APK (MOT) again. Major repairs scheduled for September 2001 are postponed because they are not needed anymore ! Strangely enough the hydraulic system has improved since I use the car. At first the brake test where you stop the engine and count the number of brake press/depress movements used to get the brake warning lights illuminated showed only a count of 5 , but now two years later i can do this over 40 ! times. This means that the hydraulic accumulators have improved. The transmission seal is leaking, but this leak is very small so we just leave it that way.

July 20, 2001

We made it to Yahoo! The site is listed in "autos", "makes & models","Rolls-Royce", and this is a boost in the hitrate.

July 13, 2001

Everything goes fine basically. I use the car every day. I have given up on central doorlocking, its manual from now on. Switching from neutral to first gear does not go as smoothly as it used to go, but I can live with that. I also overfilled the brake fluid reservoir, I am loosing fluid now out of the hole in the fill cap untill things stabilize....  I tried to get a listing in the Yahoo! äuto's, makes and models, Rolls Royce"section four times now over the last two yesr. I now have written to the editors to see if that  helps..

May 24, 2001

The "tiny leak" in the exhaust turned out to be a couple of blown/worn gaskets between the engine and the exhaust manifold. The manifold had to be reworked. Getting the bolts loose was a major task, but the engine is silent again. The central doorlocking is working again, but I have no high hopes, it will most likely malfunction again within half a year. The Gasket between the transmission and engine is leaking, we will deal with that in September. (If there is a problem found when we take it off we better do a complete overhaul, a US$ 1500,- job.

May 06, 2001.

There is always something that needs to be done, the two rear central doorlocking "thingies" do not operate anymore, there is this tiny leak in the exhaust that needs to be fixed (only noticable at high revs), it is time for a new battery (I needed an extra one to start after a two week stop this winter) and there is this "hydraulic thing". Rollie fails the test where you stop the engine and see how many times you can brake before the red brake light comes on. This should be 30 to 50 times (I don't know any other car that has 50 power assisted brake trials left after the engine stops....), but Rollie only has 5 or so indicating an accumulator failure. The people at my garage tell me that you cannot just replace them, you have to replace the entire hydraulic system, an operation that costs around US$/ Euro 8000,-. At the same time they advise me to live with it, because it is still a safe system. I will leave the decision in the Hands of mr Dow Jones/ Nasdaq / AEX , if they go up.........

March 10, 2001

Spring is in the air so Rollie is out of the garage.

January 07, 2001

I purchased a couple of items (original Silver Shadow brochures) on the Ebay auction. I hope to use them for  the site. The car stays inside, I only drive during the weekend for an hour or two to keep the systems in working order. (but the central doorlocking is stuck already on the rear doors.....)

December 10, 2000

Went to the technical Silver Shadow day in Apeldoorn organized by "de Mascotte". A bit of a disappointment, too many cars and long waiting times. In the meantime we have changed the coolant (al 14 litres of it....), so Rollie is ready for the winter. The stuff that drained out was mainly water.......

November 1, 2000

It's wintertime and it takes too long for the engine to heat up in the cold damp weather. So the car stays in the garage, I only take it out every two weeks to keep it in good condition.

September 11,2000

"Rollie" has it's "A.P.K." (Dutch MOT), new white sidewall tyres, a repaired exhaust and everything runs smoothly

June 16,2000

It's a "cheap" one this time, the oilpressuresensor was the problem, it is replaced and everything is ok again....

June 14,2000

Eeh well 2,5 months is not bad, I guess. "Rollie" is ill again, the oil lamp comes on when the engine is up to temperature, meaning that the pump is bad, the filter is plugged or the sensor is damaged. The garage picked the car up with a truck today.

June 02, 2000

We did the first "wedding car assignment" (for free) at Ruud and Moniques wedding, was fun to do for a change. See the picture at the "rent a Rolls" page.

May 21,2000

Attended the country fair (Unive) in Apeldoorn together with 60 other Rolls Royce's and Bentley's. On this Sunday the fair had 30,000 visitors so it was quite a happening. The Dutch Rolls Royce and Bentley owners club, "de Mascotte" had a huge picnic tent in the center of a field, the cars surrounding it in two gigantic circles. See also the special gallery!

May 7,2000

Since march 30 I use the car daily to drive to work or in the weekends for trips. Everything is running fine.

March 30,2000

Today we picked the car up again. Window motors OK,central doorlocking OK, 4 new speakers, leaking booth is fixed and complete oil change. The booth lid was not properly "hinged" and when this was fixed and the rubber was properly placed everything was watertight again!

March 16, 2000

Work on the car is still not done, electric windows (motor revision), central doorlocking, leaking boothrubber and water drain from front gird/ air intake.

March 4, 2000

Finally found a Rolls Royce garage in the eastern part of the country (garage Groenouwe in Bathmen) I will take "Rollie" there next Tuesday for a problem with the electic windows (left front window will go down.... but not up again...) Furthermore "Rollie" needs his oil changed and the booth rubber is leaking again, the old story

February 13, 2000

No news, and that's news too for a change! Everything runs smoothly I drive the car every day (to work or just for a trip) and it's a great pleasure!

January 27, 2000

Great news ! Today we collected the Shadow at BCCP, all the work they did during the last week paid off. The engine runs like clockwork again, silent, very silent. The main problem was indeed an air leak in the vacuum system. The electronic ignition system does wonders too.

January 25, 2000

BCCP systems reported that we have 8 cylinders again! The electronic ignition helps along with the right spark plugs and cables. If everything works out the Shadow will be ready for pickup tomorrow.......

January 21, 2000

The car is at BCCP fuel systems . They will install electronic ignition and correct "repairs" performed by pro autoparts.

January 18, 2000

received the following response from Marty Cutler in the forum of the Owners club of  Australia:

Sounds possibly like an air leak which would create a rough running engine. Check rubber hoses running off the carbies. I am not sure of how the SU's are set up on the SS1, (my car is a Mk VI) but would assume you would have a balance pipe between the 2, as well as pipes coming off for vacuum advance, etc. To check the intet manifold, spray WD-40 or similar pressure spray at the manifold while it is running, to see if you have an air leak at the manifold. Have you checked your plug color? Chokes also have a habit of jamming. My car has manual chokes, so is easy to check. From what remains of my dim memory, I think yours has automatic chokes. If your plugs are really black and sooty, the choke may be jammed on.

January 14, 2000

Next Friday....again delay and again it will be next Friday. A repair that takes 2.5 month's I can't wait for the bill.......not!

January 07, 2000

Well, the diaphragms where part of the problem, the old ones feel real brittle, but after replacement the problem was still there, we corrected the needle adjustment, there was a big difference between the left and right one. The engine is running much better now, but still idle RPM is not steady. So the car is going to a specialist for carburetor tuning next Friday.

December 17, 1999

After consulting Mr. v/d Prijt (Brabo) again I finally convinced the people at the garage to take the carburetors apart to replace the two diaphragms that according to Mr. v/d Prijt cause the fuel mixture adjusting problem........ I first want to try this before we do a complete overhaul.

December 10, 1999

The Dutch license plates / registration finally came through, AE-98-55 !! Now we can actually drive legally with the car..

November  24, 1999

The car is still at the repair shop (!!), new contact points cured the stalling of the engine, but after 1.5 hours the fuel mixture setting is getting too rich, it seems like we need a complete carburetor overhaul..... This will take another 5 weeks.   In the meantime, still no license plates, it turned out the papers have been laying in a desk drawer for some time. It can take two weeks more....

November 05, 1999

The car is in repair for 3 days now, new distributor cap, new spark plugs and cables, ignition adjusted, CO level dropped from 10%(!!) to 4%, but the engine stalls after 15 min...... According to v.d. Prijt the problem can lie in the 2 diaphragms in the undersection of the carburetors... In the meantime still no license plates.

October 31,1999

The car starts to run bad, the engine hesitates onder load and when idle. seems like a whole lot of reasons for this, I made an appointment with the garage to see if they can fix it. I have bought the complete workshop manual to help them (they work with old American cars, no Rolls Royce yet....)

October 07, 1999.

Drove to Dwingeloo,Drente for installation of the security system by Mr. Wagemaker . The car was also valued for the insurance. It was a good buy, the value is much higher than the price we paid. Our Silver Shadow  is in exceptional good condition!

October 01,1999.

We collected the car at Brabo , Heemstede and drove it to Hengelo. great ride, everything runs smoothly. Just one problem, the booth rubber strip is not watertight, we have water in the booth.....

September 25,1999.

Today we bought our Silver Shadow 1 (Serial number SRH 9892 ) !!!  . There is a complete service history and manual, all the original tools and the car has been stripped and overhauled in 1996. Click here to see some photo's of the 1996 operation. The car still has an English license plate, it will take some weeks before we will get the Dutch plates. (The English license has to be transferred first, it seems to be a special plate.......)
